Scientists say of the five senses, smell triggers memory and emotion more than any other. I disagree. For me it's hearing, more specifically hearing music. Music is all about emotion; it can make you laugh, cry, feel like dancing, feel like calling an old friend, feel like ripping your hair out, make you remember a specific moment, person, place or time and most important it can make you dream. When good music is playing, I visualize a piece of art or conversely I can see a painting and really feel in tune with a song and it's lyrics. Depeche Mode's Martin L. Gore wrote "In your room, Where time stands still, Or moves at your will," for me, THAT is the essence of art. Lyrics are more than just the words, music is more that just sounds and art is more than just something hanging on the wall. You can see how music inspires me not only by subject matter, but by the title of my pieces and the movement they convey. So tell me, what moves you?
